Samples for the study are face-dressing cosmetics which were bought from northern, middle, southern and eastern area of Taiwan. The method of Draize's Patch Test was followed. According to the criteria of judgement for irritation, the severity of symptoms of skin irritation is divided into four classes: no, mild, moderate and severe irritation. The samples showing positive reactions were further analyzed to check if their ingredients containing mercury, bithionol or hydroquinone mono benzyl ether. The results show that among the 154 samples, 71 are no irritation (46.1%), 41 mild irritation (26.6%), 42 moderate irritation (27.3%) and no case of severe irritation was found. The samples of 83 positive irritation were further analyzed. It wasfound that 9 samples contained mercury and no bithionol and hydroquinone mono benzyl ether were found. |
