Ingestion, inhalation and percutaneous absorption of methanol may cause poisoning, visual impairment or complete blindness and death. For this reason, the government regulates the methanol level in ethanol under 0.2% v/v for any cosmetic merchandise which contains ethanol. This is a report of results of analysis the amount of methanol contained in 77 samples of perfumes and Florida wather (toilet water), of these 44 were manufactured in Taiwan; the others were imported. The results showed that only one sample contains methanol, but in an amount still below regulation limits. It was concluded that there is no strong evidence that commercial perfumes and Florida Water are violating the Taiwan regulation. |
