In order to determine the quality of commercial concentrated Chinese medicinal preparations, 89 samples of preparations representing six different herbal formulas were collected from the Taiwan area from July to October. 1993. In this study, the total ash, acid-insoluble ash, dilute ethanol-soluble extract and water-soluble extract were determined by the methods described in Ch.P.III and J.P.XII. The results showed that the range of the total ash and acid-insoluble ash in Shin-Yi-Ching-Fey-Yiin、JinSheng-Shenq-Chin-Wan、Buu-Jong-YinChin- Tang、Jia-Wey-Shiau-Yau- San、Bae-Her-Guh-Jin-Tang and Gan-Luh-Yiin were 5.4-20.2, 0.42-2.71; 2.8-6.5, 0.19-3.78; 3.3-7.0, 0.27-3.26; 3.1-7.1, 0.22-2.60; 2.6-9.0, 0.24-4.82; 3.1-9.8, 0.41-7.52 % respectively, while the range of dilute ethanol-soluble extract and water-soluble extract were found to be 17.7-52.1, 25.5-57.8; 15.4-42.0, 21.9-46.1; 30.4-52.8, 36.2-56.9; 26.0-42.8, 27.5-50.4; 31.0-59.7, 36.1-52.6; 29.3-52.3, 28.5-48.2% respectively. From the above results, we have found marked differences among various brands of preparation of the same prescription. The variation in quality may be due to different sources of crude drugs and/or different manufac- turing processes. |
