Granulosa cell tumors of the ovary (GCTs) constitute a rare subgroup carrying a malignant potential, since they have the ability to recur and metastasize. GCTs are generally associated with a favorable prognosis, and are diagnosed as stage I diseases. Therefore, many patients do not need adjuvant treatment after surgical treatment. Some regimen of combination chemotherapy is an option for patients with residual tumor or a high risk of recurrence. Hormone therapy or bevacizumab appears to be a good treatment alterative for patients with advanced-stage or recurrent GCT. A prolonged post-therapeutic follow-up is necessary because of the risk of recurrences, late and exceptional for the adult form. |
