A total of 150 slice fruits purchased from super- markets and street stands were examined to determine the total plate count, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and the residue (SO2) of Bleaching Agents. The result indicated that 56 samples (37.3%) failed to meet the total plate count -hygienic standard, but E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus were not found in all samples. 38 out of 79 samples from super- market and 18 out of 71 samples from street stand were failed to meet the hygienic stand. The resultsindicated a much higher occurence of total plate count in papaya than the other slice fruits, all samples of papaya failed to meet the hygienic standard. The residue (SO2) of Bleaching Agent was not detected in those 150 samples. |
