A high performance liquid chromatographic method for determination of aristolochic acid il and II in Fangchi Radix was established. The samples were analyzed by HPLC on a Cosmosil 5C18-AR column and UV detector (254 nm) with acetonitrile-1.25% acetic acid (v/v) (40:60) as a mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The regression equations of aristolochic acid I and II were Y = 1.06E-05X-0.28 (r=0.9998) and Y = 8.28E-06X+0.12 (r=0.9998), respectively. The intraday and interday relative standard deviations of aristolochic acid I were 1.17% and 1.71%, and the recovery was 103.08 ± 3.42%. The intraday and interday relative standard deviations of aristolochic acid II were 1.28% and 1.70%, and the recovery was 103.13 ± 3.68%. 20 samples of Fangchi Radix were analyzed.
