Qieyun 切韻 integrates Chinese dialects of the Six Dynasties era (about 3^rd-6^th centuries) into a diasystem, upon which the rhyme tables of Yunjing 韻鏡 are based. From these two sources, this paper internally reconstructs 26 initials of this diasystem, and then reconstructs their pronunciations according to the implicational universal principle. We argue that this inventory reflects the system of initials of Pre-Middle Chinese. |
