Due to the emerging trend of institutional repository, open access, and academic search engine, the type of academic publishing and the communication channel of academic information become diversified. Thus, the value chain system of traditional information inevitably needs to be updated so as to meet future challenges. This paper intends to investigate one of the most important activities in the academic communication system-academic publishing and introduce the concept of ”value chain system”. Based upon variation of every value activity in the value chain of academic publishing activity, this purpose of the study is to analyze the changing roles of the participants such as author, publisher, university and library, and attempt to depict future transition of academic publishing value system in order to find possible responses from academic library. |
