The purpose of this article is to discuss the characteristics of electronic-learning in time-space disembodied situation, and especially focuses on the learners' perception of time and space in network. Besides, the characteristics of knowledge in post-modern age also point out some inhibition on electronic-learning. The literature review was performed to provide new approach to view online learning. The author tries to apply the concepts of time-space dis-embedded, and the characteristics of knowledge in post modern age by Giddens, time of sociology, and space of flows forward by Manuel Castells in 1998 as theoretical frameworks for analyzing data. Based on the literature review and the researcher's experience on online teaching, students used multi resources through hyperlink to support their learning, and constructed their perceptions of space in the Internet, as Castells described the Internet as ”space of flow”. The empirical data was gathered through surveys of students (n=52). Based on the research findings and the comparisons between research findings and theoretical frameworks, the results revealed the characteristics and differences between electronic learning and traditional learning. |
