Physical activity and healthy weight status are significant determinants of adolescent’s health. For adolescent, sufficient physical activity is beneficial for physical development and disease prevention. In addition, health weight status also plays an important role of their health. Active commuting has been considered as an effective strategy to promote physical activity and maintain weight status among youth. Therefore, this study aimed to collect and review the literature regarding the associations of active commuting to school with physical activity and weight status. The results showed that active commuting to school is related to higher levels of physical activity and lower risks of obesity. However, there is still limited evidence in Taiwan. This study suggests that for policy makers and intervention designers, it is important to develop environmental approaches to promote active commuting to school in Taiwanese adolescent. Future studies on examining this issue are warranted. |
