The present study was an evaluation of the effects of an education intervention that focused on Internet safety and eHealth literacy. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative part applied one group pretest-posttest design, while the qualitative part analyzed 145 reflection reports from student participants. In 2014, a total of 145 eighth grade students from six classes of a junior high school in Taichung city received seven 45-minite Internet safety and eHealth literacy education intervention sessions. The results indicated that the Internet safety and eHealth literacy education intervention significantly increased cyberbullying preventive literacy and eHealth literacy of youth. In addition, the course increased participants’ awareness of the importance of Internet safety and eHealth literacy that could help adolescents to search reliable online health information. It was suggested that integrating Internet safety and eHealth literacy education intervention into a junior high school course. According to the results, curriculum design and future research were suggested. |
