Suicide prevention is an important issue for current government and private organizations. It has been fifty years using telephone services in suicide prevention in foreign countries. This service has been introduced into Taiwan more than thirty years by non-governmental organizations. This article will review the literature and previous reports to understand how the telephone guidance in the suicide prevention was developed. The purpose of this study is to know the function, the effectiveness, and the restrictions of the telephone guidance in suicide prevention. Hopefully, this paper will enable the public to know more about this service. |
