Patient fall is the most common unwanted event in the hospital and may result in negative impacts on patient safety. The aim of this project was to lower the fall incidence among medical inpatients. The contributing factors, such as complexity of diseases, lack of knowledge about preventing fall, and the shortage of training course, would heighten the fall incidence rate, 0.09% in particular between 2005 and 2006. After instituting the strategies for one year including assessment form, wristband, supplement of assisted devices, educational poster exhibition, staff education, monitoring procedure, as well as physician initiatively remind risky patients during ward around, the fall incidence rate had been reduced to 0.034% at August in 2008. Findings demonstrated collaborative team approach, especially physician participation, not only decreased the falling events but also enhanced cooperation between multidisciplinary team members. |
