Type 2 diabetes is a complex disease that is often associated with high insulin resistance, oxidative stress, and an inflammatory state. In addition to bad dietary habits, little or no physical activity is a major cause of poor control in patient with diabetes mellitus. Moreover, a lack of physical activity can result in high oxidative stress and inflammation, which can impair routine control of blood glucose and blood pressure. Different exercise styles and intensities have different effects on diabetic control. Aerobic training or combined strength training yields better metabolic and physically functional improvement. Several studies have shown that Tai Chi exercise provides both endurance and strength activities. Several studies have also mentioned that Tai Chi exercise therapy has better antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects than a control group that does not engage in Tai Chi exercise therapy. Thus, Tai Chi may be one of the most suitable exercises for patients with type 2 diabetes. |
