Background: Nursing professional commitment is a global issue, especially in student age. Purposes: (1) to describe the condition of work value and professional commitment among student nurses. (2) to analyze the differences of personal trait on work value and professional commitment. (3) to analyze the correlation between work value and professional commitment. (4) to analyze the predictiors of professional commitment. Methods: A convenience sample was conducted and 845 subjects data were collected in a university in Taichung area. A structured questionnaire was used (cronbach’s α=.75–.93), and it content personal traits, work value and professional commitment. Results: (1) the mean score of work value with nursing students is 3.71 (total score is 5 point) and the mean score of professional commitment is 2.82 (total scores is 5 point). (2) not graduating students, junior college, not practicum and had no experience of nursing in the past have higher work value, Junior college, choosing nursing is own interesting, had no experience of nursing in the past have higher professional commitment. (3) work value had moderate correlation with professional commitment. There were three significant predictors (work value, choosing nursing is own interesting, and grade of last semester) and the adjusted R2 was 30.1%. According the results we recommend early orientation to nursing in nursing education in school, and creative support environment to nursing students when they in clinical practicum. |
