The object of this study is to understand nursing personnel’s knowledge, attitude, and behavior towards labor safety and health. The study was conducted using a selfdesigned questionnaire. The study population consisted of 290 nurses working in a Regional Teaching Hospital and a related public hospital in central Taiwan. The questionnaire included basic personal information, 19 questions on labor safety and health knowledge, 28 questions on the subjects’ attitudes towards safety and health issues and 26 questions on safety and health behavior. In the latter cases, a 4 point scales was used to assess the responses. The result showed that the average score out of 19 for safety and health knowledge was 11.76+2.15, 84.56+6.54 out of 112 for safety and health attitudes and 76.13+8.84 out of 104 for safety and health behavior. There were no statistically significant differences among the hospital nursing personnel in terms of safety and health knowledge. However, it was found that attitudes and behavior towards safety and health showed statistically significant difference among the nursing personnel depending on whether the personnel were married, had children, had administration experience, were aged over 36 years or had more the 15 years nursing experience. The results indicated aggressive cooperation among these nursing groups in terms of safety and health behavior. Based on the attitude and behavior results, it was found that periodic health checkup were the subjects’ greatest concern and involved the most cooperation among the nursing personnel. In contrast, educational training and emergency disaster practice received much less attention and there was an unwillingness to participate. Therefore, the relevant departments need to pay more attention to these latter areas. |
