The nursing manager are complained from family of the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) about the massive noise very often, which disturbs the NICU newborn's sleep and rest seriously, This special case is aimed to reduce the noise decibel rate in the NICU. By the way of analyzing current situation, we measure the source, cause and volume of noise, and found the machinery and the artificial noise in the NICU was all achieved above 75 decibels. Thus, as we established the noise disturbance factors, via literature review and the group discussion, we drew up a plan as follows: First, strengthen the maintenance of the working vehicle, and formulate a maintaining protocol; Second, adjust the alarm’s volume of every monitoring machine under the acceptable range; Third, put sound-isolated soaks upon the incubator and inside the working vehicle to reduce the noise; Fourth, develop nursing staff’s education and training. The outcome demonstrated that the average of machinery noise was 64.04 decibels, and the average artificial noise was 67.9 decibels. The goal of this hypothesis was set on 70 decibel on average. We did have an improvement after those changes. However, based on the conviction of quality improvement, we will be continuing monitor and adjust our policy to make a better outcome. |
