Isolated pulmonic valve endocarditis is an uncommon clinical entity. The predisposing factors for developing pulmonic valve endocarditis include a congenitally anomalous pulmonic valve, intravenous drug abuse, and the presence of indwelling intravenous or flow-directed pulmonary artery catheters. We report our experience with a patient diagnosed with isolated pulmonic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple septic emboli from our institution. He was treated with teicoplanin based on the blood culture which yielded methicillin-resistance Staphylococcus aureus. Unfortunately, the pulmonic valve vegetation enlarged during the treatment course and surgical intervention was performed under the surgical indication. The literature on the isolated pulmonic valve endocarditis is reviewed. |
