Improperly material handling task is one of the main risk factors that cause low back injuries. The purpose of this study is to develop an automated computer system for evaluating the possible low back injuries in manual material handling tasks. The key idea of this system is to use computer vision technique to automatically assess the posture in the process of performing manual material handling tasks. The system can calculate the strains exerted in low back and different joints based on the anthropometric data and the biomechanical models. Then, the system can indicate the worst element during the manual material handling job cycle, and the disc compressive force compare with the specific damage loaded compressive strength to predict the possible injury occurrence. Finally, some recommendations of correct material handling of lifting posture are given. The system is written in C Language and image processing libraries, biomechanical models, and anthropometric data base are built in the system. These will be very useful for future development. |
