The development of biological monitoring method is important in protecting workers who are exposed to hazardous substances. For routine monitoring purpose, the features of rapidity, simplicity and automation are of primary concerns. In this study, an on-line automated system for the determination of lead in blood samples was developed and its applicability to routine biological monitoring was also tested. In this automated analytical system, an atomic absorption spectrometer is used as a detector coupling with the sample pretreatment process consisting of sample digestion and matrix eparation/preconcentration. The system operation parameters including digestion efficiency of the microwave digestion chamber, preconcentration efficiency of iminodiacetate resin column, and the overall stability of the on-line system were investigated and optimized. The system has been proven to be effective and applicable to the determination of lead in the blood of workers. |
