The objective of this study is to evaluate the suitability of the safety helmet size classifications in the Chinese National Standards (CNS 2396-Z2009). The study compares the head sizes in the worker craniofacial database with the size classifications of motorcycle helmet performance standards in the Chinese National Standards. The results reveal that the CNS standard head shapes are actually shorter than those shown in real data under the same classification conditions. The distance between the maximum head circumference and the Frankfort Horizontal Plane is shown to be shorter in comparison with the native head shape. Based on the Chinese National Standards, the sizes of safety helmets should be adjusted slightly to match the size of laborers' typical craniofacial manikins. |
