A prototype of safety alarm system for automobile was developed. The failure modes of brake pump, brake activating mechanism and brake shoe linings were first studied before deriving temperature and moisture content as the monitoring parameters. From the field test, the thresh-hold monitoring temperature of braking shoe lining was set at 100 . When the brake shoe lining temperature exceed 100 , the water will spray automatically to cool down the brake shoe temperature. The alarming signal for the brake fluid moisture was set at 4 to 5%. Once this value was exceeded, the alarm signal will light-up to warn the driver changing the brake fluid. The components of the safety alarm systems also went through thermal cycling and environmental tests. There were no rust nor corrosion to these components. From these theoretical analysis and in-field testing, the safety alarm system was proved to be safe, effective and inexpensive for commercial application. |
