This research focuses on loading tests of various scaffolding installations in order to investigate the critical loads and failure models of the scaffolding systems with the upper wooden shores and reinforced cables. The test result shows that the scaffolding system with upper wooden shores 85 cm in length reduces the strength about 40% comparing with the scaffolding system without upper wooden shores. The cables, installed at the position between scaffolds and wooden shores, effectively increase the system critical load. The failure model is changed from the system buckling of the scaffolding system with the upper wooden shores to the member failure of the pure scaffolding system. When the reinforced cable is setup on the in-plane direction and 45 degree to the in-plane direction, the load-carrying capacity of the scaffolding system with wooden shores increases more than 80% of that of the pure scaffolding system. When the pre-stress of the cables is applied symmetrically and the ends of the cables are fixed firmly, the strength of the system increases effectively. |
