To show the determination of the government policy to join the “Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement' (TPP) and the 'Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement' (RCEP), President Ma instructed the relevant administrative departments to work for preparation before the end of July 2014. Basically, it should be a consensus for the public to push toward a more open direction. However the Sunflower Student Movement which occurred in March 2014 has given rise to doubt. Taiwan’s road to participation in regional trade and economic integration faces unsmooth external factors but also faces domestic voices of skepticism; it is beset with troubles internally and externally. Based on this, it is necessary to learn lessons from other countries so that Taiwan can reference their views on government, industry and civil units. This paper attempts to collect worthy cases and practices of the East Asian countries which have signed the FTA or participated in regional economic integration processes and to understand how they solve problems. Finally, the paper will make policy suggestions for Taiwan. |
