Can “They” and “We” Be Considered the Same? A Comparative Analysis of the Value of Women from China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan |
英文摘要 |
This study compared the value of women as perceived in China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan; the analysed aspects comprised social behaviour and attitudes, gender awareness, achievement orientation, awareness of the nature of the world, and personal awareness. Although Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam are generally believed to have similar cultures, the results indicate that distinct variations of women’s values exist in these three areas. Because of these cultural differences, Taiwanese people should respect all aspects in which married immigrant women differ and allow such immigrants to maintain their native cultural practices in Taiwan. In addition, educators in Taiwan should introduce multicultural perspectives in courses for these immigrants to enhance cross-cultural interactions. When assigned a case, social workers should understand the differences in women’s values and respect the choices of female marriage immigrants. |
