The purpose of the present study was to investigate the biological activity effects of Panax notoginseng saponin, polysaccharide, and aqueous fraction on human sperm motility in vitro. the study was based on 38 eligible semen samples performed by the computer assisted semen analyzer according to the semen criteria in the WHO. Fifteen samples with a concentration over 20 million per mililiter and a motility over 50% placed in the normal group, and 23 semen samples with the same concentration and a motility less than 50% placed in the anomalous group. Each sample was prepared by a washing method, before observing the effects of 1.0 mg/mL and 2.0 mg/mL Panax notoginseng fractions solutin on sperm motility as well as on progression at 60 minute and 120 minute. The results demonstrated that the stimulating activity of 1.0 mg/mL and 2.0 mg/mL of Panax notoginseng fractions solution on sperm motility produced a significant increase in the normal and anomalous group at 60 minute and 120 minute in vitro. As for the concentration effect, the 1.0 mg/mL of Panax notoginseng saponin solution, in the anomalous group, and polysaccharide solution, in the normal group that enhanced the sperm motility, was markedly superior to the 2.0 mg/mL at 120 minute. the stimulating activity of 1.0 mg/mL and 2.0 mg/mL of Panax notoginseng extracts solutin on sperm progression had an obviously significant enhancement, except the 2.0 mg/mL solution of saponin solution in the anomalous group at 60 minute in vitro. At 120 minute, only the 1.0 mg/mL of polysaccharide solution, in the normal group, that increased the sperm progression, was significantly different from the F-10 control group. In the anomalous group, Panax notoginseng extracts solution had a significant increase of sperm progression except the 2.0 mg/mL of saponin solution. |
