This study explored health resource use in anorexia nervosa (AN) patients in Taiwan. By using the Psychiatric Inpatients Medical Claims Data of the 2002-2007 National Health Insurance Research Database, Registry for Contracted Medical Facilities and Registry for Beneficiaries, a total of 171 hospitalized patients with AN were analyzed in this study. AN occurs in women more often than in men, particularly in women between the ages of 15 and 24. For the patients with An in this study, the average duration of hospitalization was 20.42 days, and the average medical expense associated with each hospitalization was 54,764.44. The average number of hospital visits for patients with An in this study was 1.16, and these patients were mainly hospitalized in the psychiatry division, followed by the internal medicine and pediatrics divisions. Age, number of comorbidities, low-income family status, catastrophic illness card possession, and the contracted category signifi cantly affected the use of hospitalization among patients with An in Taiwan. |
