Strength and conditioning is a necessary means for improvement in athletic performance. It is also a professional field. The strength and conditioning coach (SCC) plays a vital role in the development of competitive sports. For SCC's, a singular and definitive job focus no longer exists as multi-dimensional job responsibilities have become commonplace. In addition to the primary responsibility of integrating sports science theory and practice to provide athletes with a safe and effective training regimen, the SCC also functions to support the prevention of sports injuries, strengthen the psychological maturity of athletes and oversee multiple administrative matters. Thus, there is a higher demand in experience, qualifications, work load, work hours, as well as a corresponding increase in salaries. Due to the underdevelopment of this field in Taiwan, most training methods have become outdated which make the involvement of the SCC critical to improving the training level and environment. This paper summarizes the SCC's job responsibilities and structures in other countries to provide a reference and direction for our country's competitive sports practitioners. |
