This study explored the relations between critical tinking and various related factros in adult students. How did problem situation influence thinking behavior of critical thinkers was also evaluated via interviewing adult students. The chief findings in this study were: 1). sex was related to critical thinking (man had better performance than woman); 2).age was related to critical thinking (30 to 39 age-group had better performance than 40 to 49 and 50 to 59 agegroups); 3). grade was not related to critical thinking; 4). the learning styles of adult students were not conelative with critical thinking; 5). occupational tendency was correlative with critical thinking; 6). the scores in chinese and mathematics were correlative with critical thinking, but that in English was not; 7). in problem situations, high and low critical thinking groups of adult students had different thinking behavions in many aspects (such as deliberation of thinking, reflective thinking behavior, prehansion of whole situation, preconception, and self-Confidence). Generally speaking, high critical thinkers had better performance in thinking behaviors. According to above findings, the importance of the following shall not be over-emphasized: 1). the development of critical thinking in adult students; 2). the balance developement of critical thinking in both sexes; 3). concern the need of each age-group about critical thinking; 4). design various critical thinking programs and teachings to help adult students promote their living abilities; 5). exploring the relationship between critical thinking and individual psychologic factors; 6). strengthening critical thinking training in all subjects to improve the performance of adult students. |
