The purpose of this research was to understand the implementation of research findings in practice and identify the barriers to research utilization perceived by clinical nurses. A descriptive-correlational survey research design was applied for this study and a survey of registered nurses working in regional medical center in Taiwan was conducted. 243/281 (86.4%) nurses returned questionnaires to determine the bafflers to the implementation of research utilization in practice. The self-designed questionnaire was used for the study consisted of the 33-item bafflers scale and a five-point scale was used and respondents were asked to circle the response which applied to them. A greatest category of barrier to research utilization were in proper order as following hospital policy, traditional constraint, research know ledge and attitudes to research. The items perceived most often as a great or moderate to nurses in this sample are including enough time and resource to do research, enough time to read the research articles, higher education background above bachelor degree and appropriate computer facility. Moreover, age, education background, professional post, work units, the frequency of reading literature related to their work, and training of research related program were the factors of research implementation in practice. Thus the paper explored the bafflers of research utilization in practice in order to achieve the development of evidence-based nursing. |
