Objective: In order to understand the trends in the skyrocketing international medical tourism industry, this study used Michael Porter’s diamond model to analyze and summarize the international literature from 2008 to 2013. Methods: A total of 172 papers were identifi ed from Science Direct, EBSCO, Google Scholar, and Med Line. Of these, 65 met the inclusion criteria and were subject to content analysis. Results: In terms of research issues, “demand conditions” and “chance” accounted for the largest proportion. Surveying was the most frequently applied research methodology. The United States and Canada were most concerned about these issues. Conclusions: The development of medical tourism depends on the relationship between industry and government. Exploring the attitude and support of government and facing competition from other countries should both be concerns for future research. |
