The playground is the most popular used equipment in day care center. However, accidents are occurred frequently in the playground. This present study was intended to analyze the safety factors and management of day care center's playground. They were examined by ”Environmental Evaluation Form” designed by County government. All the 43 day care centers in a county of southern Taiwan were valid samples. The results showed that most play equipment (63%) did not have qualified certification. In addition, 23 % of day care centers did not set up barrier-free playground, play equipment maintenance checklist, and management staffs, respectively. The safety factors which satisfy the safety requirements were analyzed. 84% day care centers own sufficient playground area for children. There were 70% of day care centers providing enough number of play equipment for children. 63% of day care centers set up playground management staffs and protective surfacing materials to cover around the play equipment, and near a half number of centers had been provided qualified playground safe route. Equipment safety of play ground in day care centers were mostly wellqualified since play ground was obviously seen by parents, the customers of day care centers, in addition, how to manage its safety was easy to follow. However, management safety could be different in different day care centers, depending on their equipments. For this sake, there were more day care centers failed on the evaluation of management safety. Our survey showed that most of day care centers were qualify the obviously safety factors which people are easy to notice but fail in the play equipment management which were easy to be neglected. Based on our research findings, we submit conclusions and suggestions in term of establishing a concrete protecting measure and completing a full-scale safety education programs for government to promote play ground safety education for professionals in day care centers, as well as educational materials for all who concerns about the safety of play ground. |
