The Study on the Relationships among Teacher Stress, Leisure Coping, Leisure Participation, and Health-A Case for English Teachers of Elementary Schools at Taipei City

“Knowledge is power” well reveals the importance of teachers for a nation. This study was carried to survey the current status of job stress, leisure coping, leisure participation, and health of elementary school English teachers at Taipei City, to discuss the relationships within stress, coping, and health with the involvement of leisure participation, and to suggest ways helping release strain for English teachers. 428 in-service teachers were distributed four self-report questionnaires, and 340 completed the full survey: Teacher Stress Scale, Leisure Coping Measurement Scale, Leisure Participation Measurement Scale, and SF-12 Health Survey. Descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were conducted to perform the analysis. The results of this study revealed that students, time, and organization were top three stressors for English teachers, leisure coping made more positive attitude and offer a brief from stress, and indoor entertainments were the leisure activities with the highest frequency of participation, and physical functions had little influence on doing the chores. |
