This study examined the effects of top management team (TMT) characteristics on firm internationalization. According to the features of firms in emerging markets, we examined the effects of international experience and heterogeneity on internationalization in terms of the scope and speed of internationalization. Based on a sample of 504 Taiwanese listed electronic firms, we found that international experience is positively related to the scope and speed of internationalization. Moreover, educational background heterogeneity is positively related to the scope of internationalization, and functional background heterogeneity is negatively related to the speed of internationalization, respectively. This study contributes by investigating the internationalization patterns of firms in emerging markets based on the scope and speed of internationalization. It also demonstrates how TMT characteristics drive these two international activities. |
