This article is mainly about the consumer price and medical care in late Qing dynasty and early Republic of China. There are two reasons why I choose this period of time to do research. First, this is the time when western medicine met with Chinese medicine and cause great impact on each other. Secondly, the consumer price maintained a relatively stable level, which offer an objective point of view to compare. According to the medical need back to that time, people seek for help from traditional Chinese medicine doctor or buy over the counter Chinese herbs. Chinese medicine is cheaper than western medicine, which is an important reason why people choose Chinese medicine. It is also the reason why Chinese medicine survive during this period of time. This article use the data of average income of ordinary people and the consumer price at that time to analyze patients’ medical needs and cost of medical care. |
