In the paper, a new integrating channel coding and cryptography design for wireless communication systems is proposed. In contrast to conventional communication systems, the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) encoder is placed in front of the encryptor in the proposed design. After each incoming data packet, the calculated CRC code together with the input data packet are sent to the next stage. Then, the CRC code is used to both enhance data security and provide data error detection. The cryptanalyses on ciphertext-only attack indicate the proposed design possesses the following two features. (1) It is a strict cipher. (2) Its security is higher than the conventional one with the CRC encoder cascaded after the encryptor.Moreover, the computer simulation shows that the proposed system has a good ability in error detection especially when the SNR per bit is moderate high, and the detection ability is enhanced when the longer length of CRC code is employed. |
