Since its introduction in 2012, freestyle Poomsae has gradually become a focal point in Taekwondo competitions, It is known for its creative choreography and high-difficulty techniques that resonate with young athletes and audiences alike. The 2024 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships implemented the latest freestyle Poomsae regulations, reflecting significant updates in the sport. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the implications of the 2024 World Taekwondo Poomsae regulations on the evolution of freestyle Poomsae. Methods: Through an in-depth analysis of the development and changes in freestyle Poomsae regulations, this study integrates information from competition data, related reports, and academic literature to provide a comprehensive evaluation. Results: The 2024 regulations introduce notable changes, including a greater variety of jumping kick techniques and sequences of continuous kicks inspired by sparring movements. Additionally, a board-breaking segment has been incorporated into the mixed-team event, considerably enhancing the entertainment value and competitive challenge. Conclusion: As the freestyle Poomsae regulations continue to evolve and athletes improve their technical capabilities, future Taekwondo Poomsae competitions are expected to become more dynamic and engaging. These developments underscore the sport’s commitment to innovation and its ability to adapt to contemporary trends.
