The purpose of this study of psychodrama therapy was to analyze females’ struggle and their coping and changing processes in conflicts with their husbands. Three married females who had been experiencing couple conflicts for more than three months participated in the study. Their personal psychodrama sessions were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The method of conversation analysis was applied to make the phenomenological reduction on the transcripts. The results indicated that the change processes of the three protagonists’ predicaments in psychodrama could be represented in three phases: (a) unfolding of personal predicaments, (b) getting out of trouble repeatedly, and (c) a process of creating a new situation. The changes included four dimensions:(a)the temporal order perceived in the stream of consciousness, (b) the fundamental tendency acquired from state-of-mind, (c) the new situation created from getting in and out of the predicament, (d) the structural change of couple relationship. These explained how protagonists got out of the predicaments to create a new situation after they became aware of their state-of-mind and shifted the fundamental tendency. Based on the results of the study, suggestions were provided. |
