《西廂記》「三復情節」釋例

Illustrate a principle of ''Romance of West Chamber'' 'Repeat the plot three times' with examples

所謂的「三復情節」，是大陸學者杜貴晨於一九九七年左右提出來的，「三復」一詞借自《論語．先進）：「南容三復白圭。」一句，認爲中國古代小說多有從形式上看來經過三次重複才能完成的情節，本文則改從戲曲名著（西廂記）作嘗試性探討，舉出十例，以證「三復情節」也是（西廂記》寫作上的一種慣用筆法，除此，並藉此提出筆者異於杜先生「三復情節」定義說法之處，它不必然只是「經過三次重複才能完成的情節。」因運用時，或只是一種「凸顯」，或在情節、或在性格、或在氣氛，不必然一定要完成某種情節。

In 1997,ihe China author, Tu,Kuei-Chen took this phrase, 'repeat the plot three times'. He believed that Chinese traditional novel has to go through 'repeat the plot three times' before the end of the novels. In ''the definition of the Chinese traditional number 'three' and the novel's 'repeat the plot three times' style ''and ''the development and esthetics of the novel'', the author wrote a lot about 'repeat the plot three times' style. This is why 'repeat the plot three times' became a written style in Chinese. From this phrase 'repeat the plot three times' one can see novels many human interest--''The thing is but three'' or ''Three does not become the gift''. In the novel one can many human interests and one will also see a lot of 'repeat three times' style. By reading the novel one will know about what the book is talking about and the development of the novel. I used ''Romance of West Chamber'' to read, research and teach for many years. This book also uses a lot of 'repeat three times' but I did not illustrate a principle with examples that the book contained a lot of 'repeat the plot three times' style until recently.
