“Gu Wen Mei Quan”is an anthology of ancient writings containing works through dynasties, in which the“Zuo Zhuan Jing Shi Chao”features a large number of selected passages from the“Zuo Zhuan”, mainly as a literary commentary. Pu Qi Long illustrates the respective academic orientations of Zuo Zhuan’s scriptures, history, and literature, which not only demonstrates his mastery of the subject of scriptures and history, but also illuminates for posterity the fact that the ancient texts of“Zuo Zhuan”remained true to the original purpose of continuing the Six Classics and elucidating the teachings of the previous scholars. Pu selected a wide range of eclectic and diverse texts, identified the relationship between“Zuo Zhuan”and the works of subsequent writers from the perspectives of rhetoric, composition, literary harmony, style expression, and establishing a comprehensive view of the development of ancient texts from“Zuo Zhuan”, Records of the Grand Historian down to Zhu Xi and Ma Duan Lin. During the QianJia period, when Wang Chang, Qian Da Xin, Wang Ming Sheng and others were criticizing Fang Bao and other Tong Cheng literati, Pu Qi Long’s anthology of ancient texts served as a pioneer of criticism. |
