Digital finance, or Fintech, which is familiarly known, has been recognized internationally as an important development trend playing a key driving force in the global financial industry to make financial markets more efficient and competitive, while expanding channels of finance for traditionally underserved consumers, which in turn makes a contribution to the financial inclusion. However, the rapid development of digital financial technology also brings new challenges and risks to consumer protection, and gives rise to worthwhile concerns about whether the consumer protection system and development of digital finance can keep pace with the development of digital finance while facing the diversity and variety of services and products under the development of digital finance. From the perspectives of the regulatory supervision and the consumer protection system of the United States and the United Kingdom, which are strongholds in the global financial industry and financial technology industry, it can be found that either in the United States or in the United Kingdom, on the one hand, through the provisions of the financial regulatory sandbox, there is a trend of relaxing the traditional tight regulatory framworks in order to encourage financial innovation and on the other hand recently the regulatory agencies have begun to emphasize the importance of financial consumer protection. From the actions taken by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority in the United States and the Financial Conduct Authority in the United Kingdom, there is a definite trend of increasing protection of digital financial customers. Taiwan should follow this trend and build a supervision system that can not only promote the development of digital finance but also take into account the protection of financial consumers. |
