The purpose of this paper is to explore the prospects for regional tourism in the post-corona era, using Tsushima as a case study. With the acceleration of globalization and the spread of tourism, overseas travel has become commonplace, and inbound tourism has become an important source of revenue for local governments. Since the outbreak of the corona disaster, the number of inbound tourists has become almost zero. The government is trying to help local tourism with travel subsidies, what is required of local tourism in the post-corona era? Since Tsushima is the closest Japanese land to Korea, most of the tourists were Korean. Immediately after the number of tourists dropped sharply due to the deterioration of Japan-South Korea relations, tourism was hit decisively by the corona crisis. In this paper, first we discuss the role of intermediate tourism workers (middlemen) based on the results of field research on tourism in Tsushima and interviews with people involved in tourism in Tsushima. Then, we shall discuss the circumstance of attracting domestic tourists before and after the resumption of direct line. |
