Large vehicles have such transport characteristics as long vehicle sides prone to occur sideswipe collisions, large blind spots, large range of difference of radius between inner wheels, large tonnage, severe consequences resulted from low-impact crashes. This paper explores such issues as dangerous behaviors performed by large vehicle drivers, motorbike riders, bus passengers and pedestrians, hazards caused by illegal parking vehicles occupying roadways, inadequate corner radii, and weaving maneuvers occurring when motorbikes travelling on the outside lanes encountering bus frequently entering and leaving curbside stops, with multiple bus routes and high frequency services. In order to understand large vehicle driving safety issues, our cases focus on three factors---human, vehicles and roads--- to analyze crash causation and develop accident prevention strategies. Statistics for years show that car accidents caused by negligence account for over ninety percent of the motor vehicle crashes. A thorough solution to these problems is to enhance road users the concepts of moral-code aspects of driving,“using due care”and“giving way to others”. |
