The belief of Thien Hau worship in Pho Hien Viet Nam (which is now a part of Hung Yen City) is started by Chinese immigrants to Pho Hien. Current literature reveals some findings related to this Thien Hau worship’s belief in this place. Yet, there are many debates about the pioneers and the starting time. While one relatively common and widely accepted opinion is the contribution of 14 Chinese emigrant parentages, another opinion suggests the presence of 40 parentages, even still have some scholars negated these two opinions. Notably, when holding relevant discussions, Vietnamese scholars are generally unable to provide specific evidence, leading to unceasing debates. By investigating the epitaph materials from two Thien Hau temples in Hung Yen and epitaphs of Chinese emigrant parentages, the study expects to examine and discuss the number and the parentage building temples at that time. |
