This paper attempts to explore Li Gong Zuo and his fiction writing in Tang Dynasty. In the case of limited information of Li Gong Zuo’s life, this paper first bases on the biography of four works named “Nan Ke Tai Shou Zhuan”, “Xie Xiao-E Zhuan”, “Lu Jiang Feng-Ao Zhuan” and “Gu Yue Du Jing” which were written by Li, as well as the contents of Li which were mentioned in “Li Wa Zhuan” written by Bai Xing Jian and “Ni Miao Ji” written by Li Fu Yan. This paper then bases on historical biography and infers that it is most likely that Li was mentioned as “Qian Niu Bei Shen Li Gong Zuo” in “Imperial Clan Genealogy Table” of New Tang Book, and attempts to draw the outline of Li, especially his journey as an official. This paper intends to understand the origin of fictions writing in these views and the implication in the content of Li fictions to the political and social concerns at that time. And then, the purpose of this study is to explore Li and his fiction writing, to reveal the partial situation of the interaction between literati’s official life and their fiction writings and its transmission in the Tang Dynasty. In addition, the paper offers scholars some opinions to think about the significance of fiction writing towards the life of literati and the factors of the development of fictions in the Tang Dynasty. |
