In this study, I discuss the difference between sae-ba and dake-ba. According to the previous studies, sae-ba means the minimum condition and it can almost be replaced with dake-ba. But I think sae-ba and dakeba are opposite. The minimum condition expressed by sae-ba means comparatively weak condition and also means that stronger conditions exist, so it tends to be used to show concession. Dake-ha does not always mean the minimum condition. Actually, because it always means the irreplaceable condition, dake-ba tends to be used to show no-concession. |
