This study aims to depict the pattern and various usages of Chinese noun forms of adjectival verbs in contemporary Japanese. Three elements are primarily investigated: “free+da,” “healthy+da,” and “hard+da.” The finding of this study can illustrate that the usage of noun stem followed by a verb is not much constrained, meaning the verb mostly implies “motion.” On the contrary, if the “sa-form” noun is followed by a verb, such type of verb mostly implies consciousness and emotion, or comprehension. The usage of “sa-form” noun generally indicates a specific content, while the usage of noun stem depends more on abstract and conceptual concepts. Finally, the usage of “hard+da” which occurs many times in “sa-form”, could potentially explains the frequent occurrence of “~(no)+hard-sa+wo”. |
