This research aims to explore the association among the main caregiver’s parenting style, attachment and delinquent behaviors from the perspective of adolescents. The research purposes mainly include: (1) to explore the influence of the main caregiver's parenting style on adolescents' delinquent behavior; (2) to explore the influence of adolescents’ attachment to main caregivers on their delinquency; and (3) to examine the possible differences in the associations among the main caregiver's parenting style, attachment and delinquent behavior. This study analyzed the data derived from a survey with a sample of 262 adolescents. The findings showed that the main caregivers’ parenting styles and attachment both had direct impacts upon adolescents’ delinquent behaviors; especially, the higher levels of attachment between adolescents and their main caregivers, the less delinquent behaviors the adolescents would have. Furthermore, the study found that the parenting styles of the caregivers were different towards male and female adolescents. Also, the study found gender differences in delinquent involvement; particularly, male adolescents engaged in more delinquent behaviors than females. |
