The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among the self-presentation motivation, leisure engagement, and recreation specialization of surfers. The purposive sampling method was used to collect data. Surfers from the northern, western, southern, and eastern seashores of Taiwan were invited through online social networks to participate in this study. A total of 251 valid samples were finally collected. The results of this study indicated that self-presentation motivation has a positive effect on leisure engagement. Furthermore, self-presentation motivation and leisure engagement also have positive effects on recreation specialization. Moreover, leisure engagement partially mediates the relationship between self-presentation motivation and recreation specialization. Seashore management units and activity promotion organizations may utilize physical environments, social interactions, and online communities to stimulate the self-presentation motivation of surfers as a way to promote the degree of leisure engagement and recreational specialization. |
