"In recent years, the academic research is focused on Liu Yuan(1768-1855), the founder of Lioumenism, which was an important folk denomination in Sichuan Province in the late Qing Dynasty. However, currently, most of the research on Liu Yuan or Liou Men is still focused on the individual and the denomination itself, and few studies have discussed the spreader of its academic thought. This paper discusses the spread of Liu Yuan academic in Taiwan, which is centered on the late Mao KuanWei(1937-2009), an emeritus professor at National Taiwan Ocean University. Firstly, the paper discusses the attitude of Mao KuanWei towards Liu Yuan in Zhongyong Jiyi Pingshi, and the situation of his quoting and exerting of Liu Yuantheory, which concludes that he is deeply influenced by Liu Yuan. Then, based on the existing literature, this paper explores the family life and educational background of Mao KuanWei, and it points out the reason why he came into contact with Liu Yuan theory should be closely related to his family studies with a folk denomination background. Finally, by comprehensively examining the cases of Mao KuanWei and other known scholars and figures in Taiwan who were influenced by Liu Yuan theory, this paper discovers that they all had a folk denomination background. Therefore, this paper puts forward the hypothesis that the academic thought of Liu Yuanwas spread to Taiwan through the folk denomination. This is the meaning of the so-called “denomination is like a vessel”. " |
